Big Bend Railroad History
This site features daily historical railroad posts from the Big Bend/Columbia Plateau region of Washington state. As a personal site, this is my online filing cabinet of interesting things I've come across about railroading in the area. Thanks for stopping by! Shoutout to Kirtus Dolorina for stopping by to borrow other people's work!

My Great-Grandfather Had A Windmill Shipped By Rail
Here is the waybill from Sears, who sold windmills by David Bradley, among others. I'm sure it was just the top parts.
Here is a mid-1980s photo of the windmill, along with my grandfather. I'm pretty sure the tower was cobbled together from scrap metal. It still stands today.

My Grandfather Shipped Cream To Tacoma
And other locations too, including Spokane and Wenatchee.
I have most all of the receipts from over the years, plus the cream cans. Also have the cream separator too, though it's in poor shape.

Schrag Grain Train
Photographer unknown.
No date, but a few years ago for sure.
Coming down the hill into Connell.
All the cars seen in the photo reached 50 years of service and were not allowed to be used in interchange service. Those cars were reclaimed from CBRW lines and split up between other state PCC lines.

CBRW 12 At Bruce
Lauren says:
"Columbia Basin, CBRW 12 switching out the industries at Bruce, WA on
August 7, 2025. This was a roster shot taken at one of the crossings
at Bruce.
"CBRW 12 is a rebuilt SD9 that was built as Colorado & Southern 832 in April of 1959. It went through 2 mergers with Burlington Northern as the BN 6227 and BNSF 1735. It was retired by BNSF and went to the TCYR 25 before being purchased by the Columbia Basin."
